Children's Orthopaedics
What is a children's orthopaedist?
Children's orthopaedists are pediatric surgeons who are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of children with bone, joint and muscle conditions. Our pediatric orthopaedists are highly trained to use state-of-the-art technology in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic concerns.
If advanced care is needed, pediatric orthopaedists work in collaboration with a team of expert subspecialists through UMMC’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Care. This multidisciplinary team works together to care for both the mother and child’s unique needs - all under one roof.
About children's orthopaedics
The Center for Maternal and Fetal Care draws on the Children's of Mississippi pediatric orthopaedics program to offer leading-edge orthopaedic care to children of all ages. Skeletal concerns can be inherited or due to positioning in the womb. Nationally-recognized orthopaedic specialists treat skeletal concerns diagnosed either during the pregnancy or in the newborn period at Children's of Mississippi.
Our specialists cover the full spectrum of pediatric orthopaedics, including trauma, hand, spine, sports, neuromuscular and limb concerns. The inpatient care team includes non-operative pediatric orthopaedists, specialty nurses, pediatric physical therapists, pediatric anesthesiologists, child life therapists and social workers.
Children's orthopaedics offers:
- Treatment from nationally-recognized orthopaedic specialists at Mississippi's only children's hospital.
- Equipment and braces specifically designed for children.
- Observation, physical therapy, braces, splints and surgical treatment.
